As part of the collaboration between Mercitalia, Consorzio Florentia and Impresa Pizzarotti, yesterday Eng. Francesco Aguglia, President of Consorzio Florentia and General Manager Domestic Operations of Impresa Pizzarotti, spoke at the event “Go the distance Togetherorganized by Mercitalia Logistics.

“The experience of the construction site of the railway junction of Florence and Belfiore Station embodies more than any other values expressed in the speech of Dr De Filippis in terms of Partnership, Innovation and Eco sustainability. By providing for the transport of excavation land on iron, we have contributed to significantly reduce both the environmental impact in terms of emissions and the impact on the lives of citizens of a delicate and precious territory such as Florence, diverting huge amounts of transport onto iron.

Each train leaving the contruction site in Florence, destined for the re-greening of the old lignite mine of Santa Barbara (AR), entails a smaller transit through Florence territory of about 33 trucks, with a forecast of less truck transport, Lifetime of the project, almost 100,000 trucks. To this must be added the transport on iron of the prefabricated ashlars, necessary to feed the TBM that dig the two tunnels of the passante, also in this case with a remarkable minor impact is in terms of emissions that in terms of less congestion of the urban traffic.

The Florentine experience is a pioneering application of integrated logistics to the world of construction, which must certainly be replicated in complex urban infrastructure projects such as the construction of subways and/ or railway passers-by.
