Work continues on the Piadena-Mantua railway doubling project (commissioned by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana with Italferr as project manager, both companies belonging to the FS Group, to the ‘La Bozzoliana’ consortium consisting of Impresa Pizzarotti, Saipem, Icm and Salcef).

During the summer weeks, when the construction site remained active and operational, work progressed significantly on the construction of the new steel railway bridge over the River Oglio, between Bozzolo and Marcaria.

With the clearance of war ordnance and the search for materials interfering with the construction of the central pier (old concrete blocks, elements of the bombed bridge and rolling stock) now complete, the construction of an island in the middle of the river is being finalised, which will allow the central pier 2 to be built.  Research has shown that the locomotive that fell into the river during the Second World War is not located in the area of the central pier and therefore does not prevent its construction.

The platforms behind the two abutments of the existing bridge are currently being completed, where the maxi-cranes will be positioned to dismantle the existing steel viaduct. The operation should be completed by the end of September.

The support structures for the railway bridge that will pass over the Cremonese state road and connect to the SP 64 at the entrance to Bozzolo are almost complete.

Work will begin in October on this viaduct and on the one that crosses the SP 67 in Marcaria, with the installation of the metal and concrete decks.
