The new prison in San Vito al Tagliamento, whose works will be carried out by Impresa Pizzarotti, will be built in the area of the former ‘Fratelli Dall’Armi’ barracks that has been disused for over twenty years, and by 2026 it will be ready to house up to 300 inmates thanks to the construction of five new buildings and the renovation of an existing building.

A work of fundamental value that will meet the needs of the prison system to solve the problem of overcrowding in the Pordenone prison, but not only. In fact, this project will give the Municipality of Pordenone the opportunity to regain possession of its ancient thirteenth-century castle, now a prison building, and thus be able to imagine its transformation and return to the community with a completely new destination and function.

‘I hope that this will be a kind of pilot project that will be emulated in other regions,’ said Carlo Nordio, Minister of Justice. ‘Many local companies will work on this construction site,’ added Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament, ’and above all it is a response to overcrowding in order to have more dignified and safer prisons.

Also present at the event, which then moved from the construction site to the Auditorium Zotti for the presentation to the community, were Deputy Minister for the Environment and Energy Security Vannia Gava, Pordenone Prefect Michele Lastella, the mayor of San Vito al Tagliamento Alberto Bernava, representatives of the Pizzarotti company, including the Group President, Dr. Paolo Pizzarotti, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, who intervened with a video message.
