There are moments that defy description, moments that seem to stand time still and truly make us reflect. Yesterday’s meeting was one such moment.

As part of the campaign “The Power to Change: TOGETHER against gender-based violence”, we shared an intense and deeply moving experience as we listened to the testimony of Vera Squatrito, mother of a victim of femicide, Giordana Di Stefano, and author of the book “I am Giordana. My name, your memory”.

Her words, authentic and full of meaning, guided us on a journey of listening, emotion and awareness. Readings from the book alternated with moments of discussion and dialogue, creating a sincere space for sharing that touched us all.

It was an intense, at times moving, moment in which silence, attention and participation revealed just how closely this issue affects us, as individuals and as a community. Through Vera’s account, grief was transformed into awareness, remembrance and responsibility.

Particularly powerful was the reflection on what remains after tragedies such as these: the lives of those who carry on, the concrete commitment to bring about change. It is in this direction that Vera’s work has been moving for years, including in support of the orphans of femicide.

Let us take away the value of this gathering: the ability to pause, truly listen and understand. For it is from this, too, that a more mindful, respectful and attentive culture is born.
