The metal deck of the MSC Viaduct in the Port of Genoa has been launched

In recent weeks, the metal deck between piers P2 and P3 of the future MSC Viaduct was launched, as part of the contract for the strengthening of road infrastructure works at the Port of Genoa, currently under construction by Impresa Pizzarotti & C. Spa in ATI with CMM Rizzi Spa.

The metal deck, with a total weight of 167 tons and a length of 52 m, was assembled in recent weeks in an area 500 m away from the viaduct piers, in order not to interfere with the activities of port concessionaires; once the assembly operations were completed, The deck was then moved along the Porto roads using a pair of self-propelled trolleys and subsequently taken over by two cranes that lifted it and placed it above the two piers of the viaduct. The next step is the launch of the deck in the next section, between piers P3 and P4, which will be carried out using the same methods and with which the assembly of the metalwork for the new viaduct will be completed, in line with the work progress program.

With the achievement of this important milestone, the completion of the MSC viaduct is approaching, adding to the other works already carried out by Impresa Pizzarotti within the Port of Genoa to improve port traffic. This infrastructure, in particular, will encourage the interchange of goods, by means of a direct link between the road system and the Bettolo-Rugna railway fleet, which will ensure perfect synergy between iron and rubber transport as well as the acceleration of procedures for handling goods entering and leaving the port.
