The construction site for the renovation of the “Casa d’Italia,” intended to house the offices of the Consulate General, the Institute of Culture, Italian State Schools and the Comites, has been inaugurated in Zurich. The new building, which will be equipped with the latest energy-saving and environmentally sustainable technologies, is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2026.

The opening of the construction site took place in the presence of the head of the administrative and technical coordination department of the Farnesina, min. Giulio Alaimo, the city administration, representatives of the Italian community and the Italian ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, who was very pleased with the opening of the construction site.

“I am deeply happy: today the work begins and the time is approaching when the schools, the Consulate General and the Italian community will have a home of their own.” Alaimo recalled that the Casa d’Italia in Zurich – worth about 14 million euros – is one of the Farnesina’s biggest investments abroad as part of its strategy to modernize and upgrade the state property.

For his part, Consul General in Zurich Mario Baldi stressed the goal of celebrating Republic Day 2026 in the new Casa d’Italia. . The renovation work will be carried out by the Pizzarotti company based on a design by the architectural firm “Corvino & Multari.”
