Numerous and significant advancements have been made in the works related to the Piadena-Mantova Railway Doubling, commissioned by RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana – with the works direction of Italferr S.p.A. (FS Group Company) – to the Grouping of Companies composed of Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. (group leader), Saipem, ICM Group and Salcef Group.

Already before Christmas, in the vicinity of the Mantua station, demolition activities had begun on existing buildings that interfered with the route, while since this week drilling for the subfoundation piles and the construction of the plinths and to follow the piers and abutments of the overpass near Ospitaletto have begun. Construction work on the railway overpass in Marcaria is also continuing with the subfoundation piles and related elevations, which have already passed load tests.

After the Marcaria station, on the other hand, site work has begun on the area that will house a train protection wall, a structure expected in populated areas crossed by a railway. Work is also at an advanced stage on the underpass replacing the level crossing on the Sp 31 in Tornata, while the underpinning of the piles of the overpass that will be elevated on the Cremonese State Highway 10 at the height of the Bozzoliana base camp is nearing completion.

Taking shape, finally, are the viaduct over the Oglio River in Marcaria, on which the abutments are being elevated, and the one near Piadena, with the underpinning of the piles.
