The contract, awarded to Pizzarotti SA, involved the renovation of the tunnel across both tubes, including special maintenance of the supporting structure and the reconstruction of the shoulders.

The Melide–Grancia Tunnel, located on the A2 Mendrisio–Lugano Sud highway section, consists of two crossing tubes, each 1,727 m long, with a southbound and northbound carriageway, each equipped with a driving lane and a passing lane.

The consolidation and safety works carried out inside the two tubes primarily involved the final static consolidation of the tunnel.

Pizzarotti SA has also obtained certification for its concrete production plant regarding production controls.
