The work was carried out by Impresa Pizzarotti, leader of a joint venture with Retter Projectmanagement, and was considered the most important motorway project in Europe within the framework of strategic infrastructure investments for the development of mobility promoted by the European Union.
The subject of the contract, commissioned by C.N.A.I.R. – “Compania Nationala de Administrare Infrastructurii Rutiere S.A.”, consisted of the construction of works related to the A7 motorway connecting the city of Ploiesti to the city of Buzau, in the south-central area of Romania, about 60 km north of the capital Bucharest.
This first 21 km section of the Ploiesti–Bacau motorway, connecting with the existing Bucharest–Ploiesti motorway, was a key hub for passenger and freight traffic to the eastern part of Romania, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, which until then had not been covered by motorways.
This infrastructure has made a fundamental contribution to mobility in the country, improving traffic flow and generating significant benefits in environmental terms.
