Santomarco Tunnel on the Cosenza-Paola/San Lucido line, as part of the European TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean railway corridor. A new 22 km long AV/AC double-track line is planned, of which approximately 17 are in tunnels and the remaining 5 above ground. The route passes through the municipalities of Paola, San Lucido, Rende, Montalto Uffugo, San Vincenzo la Costa and San Fili, in the Province of Cosenza. A new station is planned near the entrance to the tunnel on the Cosenza side, in the municipality of Montalto Uffugo, with related connecting roads serving the area and the Rende university campus. The new Santomarco Gallery is the main work of the project and extends for over 15 km. 

Project awarded, developed and launched by a JV in which Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.a. held a stake together with other industrial partners. On 30 June 2026, Impresa Pizzarotti’s share was transferred to a company within the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group, along with all relevant appurtenances (human resources, equity interests, contractual arrangements, technical and experiential requirements, etc.)
