The bypass of the new High Speed/High-Capacity line extends for approximately 7 kilometres underground with two parallel tunnels, on average at a depth of approximately 20 metres, completed with two terminal sections on the surface: to the north between the Firenze Castello and Firenze Rifredi stations and to the south near the Firenze Campo di Marte station. The excavation of the tunnels takes place using mechanized techniques using a boring machine tunnel boring machine. Along the underground route, the construction of the new Firenze Belfiore high-speed/high-speed station is planned, served by high-speed trains and interconnected with the Santa Maria Novella station and the entire surrounding urban area thanks to different transport modes: the new people-mover between the new station and Santa Maria Novella, line 2 of the city tram system already in operation and the surface railway stop called Circondaria. 

Project awarded, developed and launched by a JV in which Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.a. held a stake (acting as the lead partner) together with other industrial partners. On 30 June 2026, Impresa Pizzarotti’s share was transferred to a company within the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group, along with all relevant appurtenances (human resources, equity interests, contractual arrangements, technical and experiential requirements, etc.).
