Last week, on National Civil Engineering Day, the Politecnico di Milano hosted the conference ‘Civil engineering for Italy’s development’ organised by the National Civil Engineering Federation (FNIC).

Representing Impresa Pizzarotti during the round table discussion on the relationship between companies and public and private clients was our General Manager of Domestic Operations, Francesco Aguglia.

The event was attended by some of the biggest names in civil engineering, who discussed issues that are becoming increasingly pressing today: from the challenges of digitalisation to the use of artificial intelligence, professional training and sustainability.

One of the primary objectives of civil engineering today and tomorrow is the creation of resilient, sustainable and digitised infrastructure capable of responding to the immediate and future needs of the country in terms of safety and modernisation, in order to create more efficient, durable and adaptable works in the face of climate and social change.

The discussion also touched on the new role of the civil engineer, seen by most as an ancient profession.

As reported by Mr Aguglia, “In order to keep this profession attractive, it is essential that it be integrated into a modern, digitalised and sustainable reality, in which the most modern technologies and materials that the market has to offer must be harnessed right from the design stage with a view to truly sustainable projects. The drive to build major infrastructure projects also comes from the involvement of new recruits, and we, as Impresa Pizzarotti, are already in our third year of professional integration programmes for young civil engineers who have recently graduated or are about to graduate.”
