Work has begun on the construction of an important and complex engineering project within the Piadena-Mantova Railway Doubling site, commissioned by RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, with work direction by Italferr S.p.A., to the Temporary Grouping of Companies consisting of Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. (group leader), Saipem, ICM Group and Salcef Group.

This is the bridge that will cross the Dugale Tagliata canal, between Piadena and Tornata, which will replace the old structure near the station, allowing double-track movement of trains.

The bridge, with a metal lattice structure, will have a length of 68 meters, consisting of a single span that, by the way, will be the longest of all the viaducts to be built, longer even than those over the Oglio River.

Specifically, work has begun on the diaphragms, reinforced concrete walls that will form the foundations of the bridge, reaching a depth of nearly fifty meters. A grab bucket machine is at work in the affected construction area, which will excavate to a depth of 48 meters.

Foundation activities will take two and a half months for each shoulder; the entire work is expected to be finished in just over a year.
