People First, the face of September: Valentina Vitale, Site Safety and Health Officer at Sigonella

“I joined the Pizzarotti Sicily team about a year ago, an opportunity that has allowed me to capitalize my experience, increase my commitment and cultivate my natural and constant dedication and care of Pizzarotti construction sites, both in terms of safety in the workplace and compliance with Italian/American regulations for the prevention of accidents in the workplace.

I currently hold the position of Site Safety and Health Officer for the MACC Sigonella, Sicily framework contract, carrying out full control over the safety procedures applied at the sites by the workers, through the implementation of the American and Italian regulations in the four task orders awarded to Impresa Pizzarotti C. S.p.A. and currently in progress.

The most challenging aspect of my job is to deal with the different nature of construction sites on a daily basis, which allow me to get involved day after day, and to confront/interface with representatives of the U.S. Government having a modus operandi different from ours, which is a significant and stimulating aspect for me, as well as to represent the point of reference for the personnel on site, allowing them to operate in healthy environments and training them as much as possible to a persistent “culture of safety”, under the banner of “Zero Tolerance” corporate.

In my role, I make it a priority to provide constant support to the personnel employed, as well as daily presence, attention and control to the fulfillment of safety guidelines. All of this helps to promote the company’s image, to foster full development of construction sites in terms of safety and health in the workplace, and to obtain at the end of the project the invaluable CPARS (certificate of good workmanship), useful as past performance, pre-requisition essential for access to ongoing and future tenders.

Success in business comes from hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice, but most of all love and enthusiasm for what you are doing or learning to do.”
