Naples, Pompeii – New Piazza Bartolo Longo, seat of the pontifical Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Holy Rosary

When art and engineering skills are combined with the fundamental and careful analysis of the historical context aimed at enhancing the main Catholic place of worship in Pompeii, one of the most important and visited Marian shrines in Italy with the dignity of a pontifical basilica.

The project, which involves the recovery and spatial reconfiguration of the square and the churchyard, today characterized by an inconsistent disorder with the strong historical and landscape identity of this place that houses a cathedral of the territorial prelature, headquarters of the pontifical delegation, part of the analysis of some aspects related to the enhancement and restoration of the axes of view and spatial connection between the architectural emergencies and the existing roads on the edge of the site of the intervention area.

Among the interventions, the highlighting of the route of the ancient Via Nazionale and the building of the original Palazzo de Fusco, demolished to configure the Parvis, the creation of green areas, the strengthening of the prospective relationships between architectures and important lighting interventions.

The main one, related to the Bell Tower, which will represent the symbol of the new intervention in progress.
