Messina-Catania Consortium: the relocation of the TBM Alessia was completed today
The TBM has completed the excavation of the right-hand tunnel of the Forza d’Agrò tunnel (L=2,490 m). The operations, which were highly complex from a technical point of view, involved both spans of the Fondaco Parrino viaduct (L=90 m) and were carried out using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) with hydrostatic transmission, enabling the entire mechanised convoy to be moved in complete safety.
Over the coming weeks, on the even-numbered deck of the same viaduct, the nine carriages forming the TBM’s backup will be moved using skid-jacking operations; once these are complete, the TBM will resume excavation of the even-numbered tunnel tube of the Letojanni tunnel (L=3,885 m).
