A significant milestone for the ME-CT Consortium: the last diaphragm of the even track of the Forza D’Agrò tunnel (L = 2,490 m) has been demolished. The tunnel was excavated using mechanized methods as part of the railway doubling works between Giampilieri and Fiumefreddo.

In the coming weeks, the TBM will be moved to both spans of the Fondaco Parrino viaduct (L = 90 m) using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) with hydrostatic transmission, and will continue excavating the even track of the Letojanni tunnel (L = 3,885 m).

The project aims to upgrade the railway link between Messina and Catania and will significantly reduce travel times, increase line capacity, and improve the regularity and reliability of the service, with tangible benefits for passenger and freight mobility in the region.
