On World Water Day tomorrow, March 22, we celebrate our commitment to the protection and management of a resource critical to life: water. This year’s theme, “Conservation of Glaciers,” prompts us to reflect on the importance of preserving these natural reserves to ensure the availability of water for future generations as we face the challenges of climate change.

In particular, we are proud to celebrate our concrete contribution through projects such as Lot 812 – Ceneri Base Tunnel in Sigirino, in the municipality of Monteceneri. Here, the operation of the water treatment plant, which is responsible for the treatment and disposal of drainage and surface runoff water from the final repository, as well as water from roads and construction sites, continues successfully.

With this facility, we monitor and treat a number of crucial parameters, such as suspended solids, pH, nitrites, oils, hydrocarbons, and temperature. This ensures that the water is treated to strict quality standards before being fed into the natural receptor or existing consortium sewer, with a flow rate sized for 20 l/s.

With these and other projects, we continue to strive for a more sustainable future in which water management is a priority to ensure the environment and the well-being of communities.
