HS/HC Naples–Bari, new Cancello–Frasso section now activated
With the activation of the double track, the Cancello – Frasso Telesino – Dugenta section has been completed, the second section to be activated after Bovino – Cervaro.
The new double track section, whose construction was entrusted to the CFT Consortium consisting of Impresa Pizzarotti (agent and technical project manager), Itinera and Ghella, under the supervision of FS Engineering, is approximately 18 kilometres long, passes through the Monte Aglio Tunnel for approximately 4 kilometres, includes eight viaducts and the elimination of 13 level crossings.
Impresa Pizzarotti’s role has seen the company not only leading the consortium, but also responsible for the technical and managerial coordination of the entire project, ensuring operational integration, control of the construction phases and compliance with deadlines and quality standards.
The completion of the section will improve the efficiency standards of the entire line. Rail traffic is regulated by the Multi-Station Centralised Computerised System (ACCM), a control room that ensures greater punctuality and fluidity in rail traffic management.
The SCMT train control system has also been installed on the new section, and the line has been equipped with fibre optic telecommunications systems.
Work continues in parallel on the new Frasso Telesino – Telese section, entrusted to Consorzio Frasso Scarl, consisting of Impresa Pizzarotti (lead contractor), Ghella and Itinera, which is scheduled to open in December 2026.
Between RFI workers and specialised technicians and those from the contracting companies, over 800 people have been involved each day. The entire Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity line, part of the TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean European rail corridor, is part of the FS Italiane Group’s “Cantieri Parlanti” (Talking Construction Sites) project, an initiative dedicated to showing citizens the evolution of major infrastructure works and the expected benefits for the areas involved.
Congratulations to the entire team for this extraordinary achievement, which confirms Impresa Pizzarotti’s ability to carry out and lead strategic infrastructure projects for the country with technical expertise and responsibility.
