Genoa, port traffic: the second floor of the Ponte del Papa bridge opened yesterday 22 May
“This is true environmentalism”. This is how the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, who arrived in Genoa for the opening, described the new Ponte del Papa, the only two-storey arch bridge in Europe.
The project, implemented by Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. with CMM RIZZI SPA as part of the Genoa logistics upgrading works, will complete the new port road system separating national and international freight traffic from private traffic.
“This is true environmentalism,’ said Minister Salvini, “which means removing 1,500 trucks from Sampierdarena and the city’s roads, wasting less time, polluting less, and serving the port and its businesses. The fact that it is the first two-storey arch bridge in Europe means that we have nothing to fear.”
The overall project involved the construction of a structure 98 metres long and over 20 metres high with a total weight of 2,000 tonnes, through a technically high architectural-structural and hydraulic design.
Also present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on the new bridge were Francesco Aguglia, General Manager Domestic Operations of Impresa Pizzarotti, Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi, the President of the Region Marco Bucci, and Deputy Mayor Regent Pietro Piciocchi.
Congratulations to the whole team for the important goal achieved!
