There are structures that connect two banks. And there are structures that transform the way a region moves: on Friday 5 June, the new Ponte del Papa opened in the Port of Genoa.

A new milestone that is not merely the completion of a complex piece of infrastructure, but the realisation of a vision: to separate port traffic from urban traffic, make logistics more efficient, improve the city’s quality of life and strengthen the competitiveness of one of the Mediterranean’s main gateways.

With its arched configuration featuring two superimposed levels and a span of almost 100 metres, the Ponte del Papa represents one of the most innovative engineering solutions in Europe. An iconic structure, one of the few of its kind in the world, designed and built to tackle an unprecedented technical challenge.

Behind every metre of steel, every launch, every construction detail, lie expertise, passion and thousands of hours of work.

Today we look at this bridge with satisfaction, knowing that its value extends beyond the infrastructure itself: it means less urban traffic, more efficient connections, and greater integration between the port and the city. Up to around 1,000 heavy goods vehicles a day can be taken off the city’s roads.

This achievement is the result of the expertise, determination and teamwork of everyone involved in the project.
