Florence railway link: visit by the RFI Board of Directors

Florence, high-speed rail junction and Belfiore Station: the Board of Directors of RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana visits the Florence Passante construction sites, a strategic project for the country’s mobility. An inspection aimed at checking the progress of the works and taking stock of the next steps.

The project, which is part of the wider Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor project, aims to promote development, competitiveness and mobility for users, goods and services.

There are three main interconnected projects: the construction of the “passante”, an 8 km underground urban crossing that will run from north to south, connecting the Rome-Florence railway line with the Florence-Bologna high-speed/high-capacity line; the construction of the new Florence Belfiore high-speed/high-capacity station, within the city’s former municipal slaughterhouse area, designed by Foster & Partners and Ove Arup & Partners; and the re-environmentalisation of the Enel mining area in Santa Barbara.
