New contract awarded to Impresa Pizzarotti in Sigonella: a naturalistic engineering project at the MUOS in Niscemi, Caltanissetta.

Project title: “Erosion Mitigation Measures”, a naturalistic engineering project consisting of the restoration and stabilisation of the embankment using mechanically stabilised earth structures, specifically designed to ensure the long-term stability of the slope.

At the same time, maintenance will be carried out on the existing apron to ensure adequate surface water drainage, thus reducing the risk of further erosion. If left unaddressed, this degradation could pose a risk to user safety and lead to additional maintenance requirements, resulting in increased environmental and operational impacts.

Furthermore, to mitigate erosion processes outside the main intervention area, the contract also includes the implementation of naturalistic engineering techniques aimed at improving the natural stability of the surrounding embankments.

The project will be carried out at MUOS (Mobile User Objective System), one of the Navy’s most strategic installations in Sicily. MUOS is an advanced high-frequency military satellite communications system operated by the US Department of Defence to connect naval, air and ground forces on the move around the world, with one of its key stations located in Niscemi, Sicily.
