The Cepav Due Consortium, led by Saipem and including Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. and Gruppo ICM, which is carrying out the work on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, has launched an innovative hi-tech surveillance project that will monitor the construction sites along the approximately 50 km of track under construction.

For the first time in Italy, a fleet of nine drones operating in BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) mode, i.e. capable of operating beyond the pilot’s visual range, is ready to monitor the route of the future Brescia East – Verona high-speed railway line.The primary objective of the project is to raise control standards and increase the effectiveness of theft and vandalism prevention.

The drones are supported by anti-theft sensors, multi-technology cameras and Security Video-Boxes equipped with high-resolution cameras and video analysis systems, while coordination of the entire system is entrusted to a Security Control Room, which supervises operations in real time thanks to the PSIM (Physical Security Information Management) IT platform.

The latter allows data from drones, sensors and cameras to be cross-referenced and georeferenced, optimising response times and interaction with law enforcement agencies.
