Origin of the present Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A.: set up as a sole trader, Gino Pizzarotti begins his activity by building the Cisa Church.

Pietro Pizzarotti converts the sole trader company into a limited liability company.

Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. establishes itself in the construction sector, is one of the most important and skilled companies in the country, completes major works on behalf of state bodies, among them ANAS (road maintenance agency), Cassa per il Mezzogiorno (Southern Italy Development Board), the Air Force and Civil Aviation, and on behalf of private companies such as ANIC, Società Autostrade (motorway operator) and Società Montecatini.

Conversion into listed company with increase of capital from L. 500,000 to L. 45,000, 000 (currently € 200,000,000 fully paid up)

At nineteen years of age, having obtained an emancipation order from the court, Paolo Pizzarotti takes over, and still handles, the running of the company founded by his father, who died prematurely in that same year. Over the years Paolo Pizzarotti has developed the Group’s activities with a sure and authoritative leadership both in the construction of large public and private works, and in heavy prefabricated structures.

After a brief lull, as a result of the death of the founder, the company begins to diversify its activities. Infrastructure and large public works projects are designed and built as the company continues to grow steadily. Alongside the general construction sector, starting in the sixties, a division is started dedicated to industrialising the construction sector. First it sets up an industrial plant in the Province of Parma and then (in 1973) another facility in the Province of Arezzo.

From the early eighties Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. in association or in a consortium with other companies, undertakes the construction of major works under concessionary arrangements, among them being: The infrastructure of industrial areas, the construction of dwellings, schools and infrastructure in earthquake hit areas, railway construction and prison construction works. In 1984 a third manufacturing unit is set up operating in the Province of Potenza. Currently this industrial division, which with three production units is capable of meeting the needs of the entire domestic market, has become the leader in Italy in terms of production volume in the heavy prefabricated building sector. Foreign activities experience strong growth with major projects being completed, among them the construction of a large part of the Euro Disney theme park in Marne La Vallée and a new interchange between the High Speed Railway station and the Regional Metropolitan railway at Charles de Gaulle Airport at Roissy near Paris.

On 25 January 1995 Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. obtains Company Quality Management System certification in compliance with standard UNI EN ISO 9001 for the planning and construction of large civil and infrastructure works such as building, road, railway and underground works.

On 18 December 2011 the ICIC (Institute for the Quality Certification of Construction Companies and Services) renews the above-mentioned certificate until 30 November 2006.

On 31 December 1999 the National Builders’ Register is abolished and Presidential Decree 34/2000 takes effect setting up a new system for qualifying public works contractors.

On 19 March 2001 Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. obtains certification from Protos Soa S.p.A. for carrying out planning and construction in 17 categories of works, 12 of which are for unlimited amounts.

In 2001 a hydroelectric plant is completed at Luzon in the Philippines for a value of 240 million dollars. In Switzerland a shaft is completed on the Gotthard railway line and work is in progress for the construction of the Bodio and Sedrun tunnels for an overall sum in excess of 800 million euros, Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A.’s share being about 162 million euros. Today the Pizzarotti Group, which is a subsidiary of MIPIEN S.p.A., is made up of a collection of companies whose areas of specialisation integrate with the activities of the parent company. The level of expansion achieved to date by the group puts Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. at the top of the list of Italy’s general construction companies.

Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. celebrates 100 years of activity, with thanks to all the people who have played key roles in the company’s long history.
